Immersive live entertainment is getting a serious upgrade. In his TED Talk, multimedia show director Willie Williams shares the story behind his most ambitious undertaking at U2’s creative director: The now iconic immersive show at The Sphere. Through a combination of video and imagination he created a massive 3D, immersive, multiscreen virtual reality experience that brought the band’s music to life like never before. Visual storytelling like this is so important to Williams because it evokes an emotional response — bringing strangers together through shared awe and wonder. “In my work, I only have one goal, which is to bring people together, to share some joy and to share some magic,” he says. “And to make genuine emotional connection for the audience, with the performers and with each other.”
