Is it possible to die from a broken heart? According to cardiologist Sandeep Jauhar, it might be. In his TED Talk, he describes a condition called “takotsubo cardiomyopathy,” or “the broken heart syndrome,” in which the heart can weaken in response to intense emotions, such as love, stress or grief. “The heart may not originate our feelings, but it is highly responsive to them,” he says. “In a sense, a record of our emotional life is written on our hearts.”
